Industry Insights: Self-Sovereign Identity and eIDAS

Traditional exact identification methods like postal authorization in Web 1.0 or video-ident in Web 2.0 are facing similar problems. They are expensive, prone to high abortion rates, and are bulky for consumers. On the other hand, quick and already established ways of digital identification like online passwords and signing in with preexisting online accounts have been shown to insufficiently secure user data and present an important factor in customer attrition. How could Web 3.0 change the way digital identification works and what does the European Commission and their so-called ‘eIDAS’ have to do with that?
